Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Decision Triangle Solutions®?
Decision Triangle Solutions® is a process for resolving conflict through balanced, reciprocal perspective-taking. It helps individuals build more secure relationships by fostering understanding, trust, and shared decision-making.
  • Who is this approach designed for?
Decision Triangle Solutions® can be applied to any situation where two people’s decisions impact on each other. The structured application of this approach can be applied to any meaningful two person interactions: romantic, family, friendships, or workplace.
  • How is Decision Triangle Solutions® different from other couples or family therapy approaches?
Decision Triangle Solutions® incorporates scientifically validated techniques used in couples and family therapy, as well as negotiation and communication strategies used in non-clinical settings. This approach is unique because it helps couples change their approach to conflict in their relationship. As they work on one issue at a time, they learn to experience each other as trusted partners who can help each other achieve their personal and interpersonal goals.
  • What happens in a typical session?
There are several stages to this approach: learning the rules, identifying problem areas, and practicing balanced-reciprocal perspective-taking. What is actually done in the session depends on which stage of this process you are in. Sessions are charged by the hour. Some people find that meeting for only 45 minutes is enough to learn what to do and are able to continue working on this technique on their own between sessions. Others find it beneficial to schedule longer sessions to really practice the techniques with Dr. Golub’s carefully guiding the process. For everyone’s convenience, all sessions need to be scheduled ahead of time.
  • How many sessions does treatment take?
This is a skills-based approach, designed to teach people to approach conflict in a new way. The length of treatment differs based on how complex your problem areas are and how easy it is for you to learn and use these approaches on your own. People have said that just agreeing to the basic approach yields improvements in their interactions. Even greater results emerge with the process of identifying problem areas and clarifying one’s own perspective. The greatest benefits come from actually using the balanced-reciprocal perspective-taking technique.
  • Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, virtual sessions are available using a HIPAA compliant (safe and encrypted) telehealth platform “Doxy.” Online therapy provides the same support, guidance, and tools as in-person sessions, and allows you to experience the guidance of Dr. Golub’s interventions in the setting where most of your interactions with each other naturally occur.
  • How much do sessions cost?
Services are billed hourly at a rate of $330/hour or $250/45 min.
  • Does insurance cover Decision Triangle Solutions®?
Insurance will reimburse treatment in accordance with your individual policy under “out-of-network” coverage for medically necessary treatment and typically cover a 45 minute session. Using DTS as part of your broader clinical needs requires a clinical evaluation at the beginning of treatment. For more details, visit the Dr. Golub’s primary website or contact Dr. Golub directly.
  • What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, notify Dr. Golub at least 24 hours before your scheduled session. Missed appointments without prior notice will incur a $75 fee.
